Harold Hardrada the king of Norway believed that he should have been the king of England because he was a direct descendant of King Canute, the King of England from 1016-1032. He also wanted to unite Norway and England and make them one country.
Harold's father was killed by the king of Denmark in 1030. Harold himself was wounded but managed to escape to Russia. He returned to Norway in 1045 and was welcomed to the throne with his nephew Mangus. Mangus mysteriously died a year later leaving Harold to rule alone.
Harold Hardrada invaded the north of England in 1066. He invaded in the North because he thought that he would take the English by surprise. Although he did take them by surprise the
Villagers fought them off and sent word to the King Harold Godwinson who promptly sent knights to
fight off the Norwegian's. During the battle Hardrada was killed and the English rejoiced while the Norwegian's returned home.
Do you think that he had a valid reason for wanting to be king? I do because being a descendant of the
previous king Canute he had a valid reason for wanting the throne and to reunite Norway and England.
