In 1067 William the Conqueror ordered for a tapestry to record the battle of Hastings. The Tapestry is 70m in length and housed today in Normandy France which is were William the conqueror was born. In 1885 skilled embroiderer Elizabeth Wardle made a replica of the tapestry so the English could have a copy for themselves. It took 35 embroiderers just over a year to complete so you can imagine how long it would have taken back then. The replica is housed Reading Museum and Art Gallery.
